Local Plan Review

Local Plan Review

Your views are needed on the future of the Borough.

We're asking for your views on future development. A comprehensive public consultation gets under way on Wednesday 25 April, and lasts until 5.00 pm on Wednesday 20 June 2018. This gives everyone the chance to offer their views on the Local Plan which includes the amount of additional development needed, where it should be located, and how development should be managed going forward.

How do I submit my views?

The consultation is divided into three distinct areas: the Local Plan Review, and the Part 1 and 2 documents of Regulation 18 (Stage 1). You are invited to respond to any aspect of the consultation you are interested in.

1. Local Plan Review

A non-technical booklet has been sent to all households and businesses in the Borough setting out the main issues in a summarised form, along with a questionnaire. You can either complete the questionnaire sent to you and return it in the pre-paid envelope provided or you can complete the questionnaire online.

All responses to the consultation should be sent to us by 5.00 pm on Wednesday 20 June 2018 at the latest.

Alternatively, further copies of the consultation will be available from the Gravesham Gateway, Civic Centre, Windmill Street, Gravesend. Or at Gravesend Library, Windmill Street, and all local libraries in the borough during normal opening hours.

We would also welcome your views on both of the Regulation 18 (Stage 1) Part 1 and Part 2 documents.

2. Regulation 18 (Stage 1) Part 1 Site Allocations Document

The purpose of this document is to examine broad options for meeting additional development needs through to 2028 and to update parts of the existing Gravesham Local Plan Core Strategy (2014).

3. Regulation 18 (Stage 1) Part 2 Development Management Policies Document

The purpose of this document is to update the detailed policies used when considering applications for planning permission and these cover a range of different topics. The document includes draft policies and supporting text and includes an explanation why these drafts have been produced. Once adopted following examination, these will replace those policies currently used that have been ‘saved’ from the Gravesham Local Plan First Review (1994).

We would welcome your views on both of the Regulation 18 (Stage 1) Part 1 and Part 2 documents as well as the evidence base we've prepared to date. This includes the Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA).

Please note, as part of this consultation, we'll also be undertaking a new Call for Sites to ensure that we have the most up-to-date record of sites which have the potential to contribute to the Borough’s development requirements.

Drop-in sessions

Six drop-in sessions will run for anyone that would like to come along and look at the various consultation options and ask questions of officers.
