Poppy appeal launch

MORE than 4000 red poppies have already been knitted and crocheted for Gravesham Borough Council’s Knitted Poppy Appeal but we would love some more.  Some of the poppies have been draped over the statue of Queen Victoria in the Gravesend Borough Market for everyone to enjoy, and to promote the Poppy Appeal 2017.  The rest of the knitted poppy carpet will be displayed at Windmill Memorial Gardens on Remembrance Sunday and will then be joined on to the installation in the market which will be on display from 13 November until Friday 17 November .

Please bring your completed knitted poppies to Gateway at Civic Centre or Gravesend library by Friday 3 November so that they can be attached to the final installation.

The council’s Director of Communities, Melanie Norris, said: “Last year we made a carpet of poppies which we displayed at Windmill Hill memorial gardens and then at the civic centre. The response we had from the public was amazing. This year we are hoping to have even more poppies so that the display will make a massive impact. We’d like to say thank you to everyone that has knitted the poppies. We hope that people will visit the display and recognise that the poppy supports the Armed Forces community past and present, and is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope.”
