It is an infringement of crown copyright to make any further copies without their prior permission. All Ordnance Survey maps are subject to copyright control which restricts the use which may be made of them. The council is only licensed to copy maps for its own use and to issue map extracts for planning applications. The license does not allow it to sell maps. If you wish to acquire a simple map we would recommend you go to Ordnance Survey's webpage (see link below) where you can find a number of options including Ordnance Survey's own 'Get-a-map' service If you wish to ask for advice, Ordnance Survey provide a helpline: 08456 05 05 05. In these cases no royalties are payable and there is no restriction on reproduction. Extracts supplied under the following terms will not be accepted as site plans to accompany planning applications. (a) Section 9 of the Act permits copying of any map under 'fair dealing' for the purpose of private study, research, criticism or review. (b) Section 9 of the Act also states that copyright is not infringed when reproductions are made specifically for the purpose of a judicial proceeding or for the purpose of a report of a judicial proceeding.
