Town centre permits

The main shopping area in Gravesham Borough is in the centre of Gravesend itself which is on the southern bank of the River Thames.

To make shopping safer and better for visitors, some roads in the centre part of Gravesend have been pedestrianised and restrictions apply to drivers wishing to gain access. Most of the main shopping streets in Gravesend ban vehicle access between 10am and 6pm (the core time) seven days a week.  Anyone else requiring access to these roads during the core time needs to apply for a permit.

All deliveries in the pedestrianised areas generally have to be made outside the core time of 10 am to 6 pm. The restrictions also apply to vehicles used for building work and alterations to premises

The council is committed to maintaining the pedestrian zone for pedestrian use only during the core time. Permits are therefore not issued unless the applicant has a very good reasons for not being able to enter outside the core time. At least seven working days notice is required in order for the application to be assessed.
