Details on parking, street lighting and reporting abandoned vehicles As from 1 April 2005 Kent County Council is responsible for the Highway Network.
Keeping the highway network of Gravesham open and safe for vehicles and pedestrians to travel around is a shared responsibility between the Highways Agency, Kent County Council, and various other specialist organizations.
Highways Agency Responsibilities The Highways Agency is responsible for the A2 from the point where it enters the borough in the east at the junction with the M2, to the point where it exits Gravesham in the west at the junction with Hall Road (A2260). Kent County Council - Roads and Travel Responsibilities Apart from the A2, the maintenance of the rest of the road network within Gravesham Borough is looked after by Kent County Council Highways Services and their term contractor Ringways Highway Services. Other highway works may be carried out for KCC in partnership with their consultants Babtie Group.

A Few Statistics The KCC Highway Services, are responsible for looking after many things and here are a few statistics relating to some of the areas they deal with - They maintain 356km of public highway and 490km of public footway
- They inspect and maintain over 7800 street lights and 1300 illuminated signs and bollards
- They also cut and maintain 398000 square metres of grass verges and grassed amenity areas both in the urban and rural areas of the Borough, including Wainscott Bypass. As part of their highway drainage responsibilities they look after and empty 9550 manholes, catchpits and road gullies
- They also have 7500 trees on the highway which need inspecting and maintaining
