Motorists using Gravesham Council operated parking will no longer need to save up change for their parking as from Monday 3 December pay to park by phone is being introduced to council car parks.

Parkmobile is a special mobile phone service, which lets you pay exactly the right amount for parking, with payment by credit or debit card, rather than having to pay with cash at the machine.

With “start stop” parking from Parkmobile, you pay only for the time you stay. When you arrive in the car park, you start your parking by mobile phone and when you return, you stop your parking the same way.

Not only that but with payments by credit or debit card, there’s no need to save up change; trek to and from a machine; or put a ticket on your dashboard - Civil Enforcement Officers check which vehicles have paid using internet connected handheld devices.

If you use an iPhone, an Android handset, a Blackberry or Windows phone, you can download the Parkmobile apps to register and pay for your parking (no charge to download). Alternatively call the standard rate telephone number 020 3003 2523 (shown on signs on the machines) at the time you want to park. If you want to save time, you can pre-register in advance at www.parkmobile.co.uk.

If it’s your first time using the service, you’ll be asked for information about your vehicle, the four or five digit location code (shown on the sign) and details of your payment card. On following uses the service recognises your mobile phone and retrieves the information given, reducing time considerably.

As well as being convenient, paying with Parkmobile reduces the risk of receiving a penalty charge notice. If you’re running late or simply want a bit longer shopping, it’s not a problem. You can stay as long as you wish (so long as local parking restrictions allow) and just stop your parking when you return. With payment just for the time you’ve parked, there’s no need to spend over the odds for “just in case” excess parking either.

There is a 20p service charge for using Parkmobile.

When you pay using START-STOP you are charged to the nearest tariff point. For instance if you stay for a time between one and three hours, you will be charged for three hours. If you stay for less than an hour, you will be charged for one hour. It takes the guessing out of paying in advance.
