New arrangements for pre-application discussions with the council's planners.
In order to ensure that prospective planning applications are well-prepared and have the appropriate information and drawings, the council is enhancing its pre-application service. The service will also allow changes to made before formal submission, or for proposals to be withdrawn, when there is little prospect of permission being granted.
Proposals should be made in writing with hard copy of plans and drawings where relevant, and a clear description of what is proposed. The appropriate fee should be submitted with the enquiry. The scale of fees is as follows:
|Major (residential more than 10 units, or more than 1000m2 commercial|
|Medium (residential 2 and 10 units, or smaller commercial)|
|Single dwellings, and other developments (not including householder)|
|Householder extensions (written advice)|
Voluntary groups and parish councils
Repairs to listed buildings
|Simple 'permitted development' or similar enquiries|
|Vehicle cross-over confirmation letter||£10|
Upon receipt of the appropriate information and fee your enquiry will be acknowledged. A case officer will be allocated, and a response will be sent within a target of 28 days. If a meeting or site inspection is necessary, or if further information or additional time is required, the case officer will contact you. Complex applications will usually involve a meeting with the Council's 'development team'.
Please note that Kent County Council Highways and Transportation offer a separate pre-application advice service to enable a detailed assessment of all highway-related impacts and effects of new development proposed. Accordingly a pre-application enquiry made to the Local Planning Authority will not include a detailed assessment of all local and strategic highway-related matters, although it will, where appropriate, still include a consideration of site-specific transport issues such as access and vehicle parking provision.
To progress more detailed discussion with KCC Highways and Transportation it will be necessary to submit an enquiry directly to them.

Automatic payment machine
Pay by cash, debit or credit card at Civic Centre through our new automatic payment machine. It's quick and easy; if you need assistance a member of staff will be happy to help you. Please attach a copy of the receipt to your form.
Enclosing a cheque made payable to Gravesham Borough Council. Do not send cash. On the back of the cheque please write the site address, and the words "Pre-application"
