Street parking - penalty charge notice

The following contains information on how to pay a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), how to appeal and what happens if payment is not made.

If you receive a PCN, please do not ignore the notice. Do not pay the Civil Enforcement Officer (CEO) they are not authorised to accept any payments.

If payment of the penalty charge notice is received within 14 days of the date of issue (as shown on the ticket), the reduced charge will be accepted as settlement. The reduced charge is dependant on the severity of the contravention.

Tariff's for Penalty Charges

Higher Tariff for more serious contraventions

Lower Tariff for less serious contraventions

£70 (£35 if paid within 14 days)

£50 (£25 if paid within 14 days)

If payment is not received within 14 days, you will be required to pay the full amount of the notice.

If no payment is received within 28 days of the date of issue, a Notice to Owner (NtO) will be sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle requesting payment. The NtO will also describe how to make a formal representation regarding the issue of your PCN.

How to pay

By telephone

Credit/Debit card payments can be made by phoning 01474 33 77 88 and following the instructions, quoting your GM reference number.

In person at the Civic Centre

An automated Payment Kiosk is located in the main foyer of the Civic Centre. Payment can be made by debit / credit card or cash.

Online via the website

You can pay online via the council's secure payments system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please have your PCN reference number available. You can view the value of the payment required by using the GM Reference number on your ticket in the form below.

Please note

If your PCN ticket was issued within the last 24 hours your balance may not be displayed. If you are sure that you have entered the correct reference number, you can still make your payment by clicking on the 'Pay online' button or use the Payonline link.  

Internet Banking

If you use Internet Banking you can set up a single transaction transfer to our account online. Remember to quote your PCN reference number.

How to make an enquiry

All enquiries concerning your PCN should either be made in writing or emailed within 14 days. Please quote the Notice Number and the vehicle registration number shown on the PCN. Your enquiry should also contain your name and full postal address so a response can be sent out to you. If your enquiry is received after the 14 days, you will lose the opportunity to pay the reduced charge.

You can also make your enquiry by completing the Penalty Charge Notice Challenge. This form can be completed on screen, but must be printed off, signed and returned to the above address.
