Registers

We keep two electoral registers of information given to us by the public:

  • The electoral register
  • The open register, also known as the edited register

Electoral register

The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in Gravesham.

The register is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote, and is also used for other things set out in law like:

  • Detecting crime, such as fraud
  • Calling people for jury service
  • Checking credit applications

The register is updated every year on 1 December and is available to view in person at the Gateway in our offices. A notice is also published and displayed in the council offices - view the most recent notice

Open register

The open register is an extract of the electoral register that isn't used for elections.

It can be bought by any person, company or organisation and is often used by businesses and charities to check name and address details.

Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for it to be removed. Removing your details from the open register does not affect your right to vote.

The open register does not include telephone numbers or email addresses.

Opting out of the open register does not affect your credit report.

To change your ‘opt out status’ please complete the online form below.

Do not use this service if you're not already registered to vote. To register to vote visit GOV.UK.
