Operate as a Takeaway

Last updated on: 15-Feb-2021

The government has advised that planning regulation has been changed to allow lawfully operating restaurants, pubs, and cafes which do not currently offer takeaway food to now temporarily do so.

This will mean that your premises can provide hot or cold food, for collection or delivery, for consumption off the premises.

To operate as a takeaway, the person responsible for the business must notify us that they plan to do so.

Let us know using our online form. It takes about five minutes to complete.

We'll ask you for

  • Your business name
  • The address of the site to be operated as a takeaway
  • Details of the proposed operation
  • The dates proposed to start and end the takeaway operation
  • Your name, address, and contact details

What happens next

We will confirm that the site / business is a lawfully operating restaurant, pub, or café, and is entitled to operate as a takeaway.

  • If it is considered lawful, your notification will be recorded on file and no further action will be taken.
  • If it is not considered lawful, you will be made aware of the reasons why, in writing.
