Exemptions

Last updated on: 09-Apr-2021

7. Caravans and boat moorings

If you have caravan pitches or boat moorings they may be classed as a home so you will have to pay council tax. It's the pitch or mooring that is banded not the caravan or boat on them.

Holiday caravans, touring caravans and holiday boats are not included.

Caravans and Pitches

If a caravan on a pitch is unoccupied it doesn't have to pay council tax for up to six months under a different exemption. When there is no caravan on a pitch (which was intended for the use of a residential caravan), the pitch is exempt from council tax.

Boats and Moorings

If a boat on a mooring is unoccupied it is exempt for up to six months under a different exemption. When there is no boat on a mooring (which was intended for the use of a houseboat), the mooring is exempt from council tax.

If you think your caravan, pitch, boat or mooring should be exempt then please contact the council tax department on 01474 337700 or by emailing council.tax@gravesham.gov.uk
