Hardship fund
Why have I received this bill?
The Government announced a £500m hardship fund in the Budget on 11 March 2020 as part of its response to COVID-19 to provide help for vulnerable people in paying their council tax.
The Government has since confirmed that they expect councils to award a discount of up to £150.00 to reduce the amount of council tax payable for 2020-21 for all working age claimants in receipt of Local Council Tax Support.
If the amount of council tax owed is less than £150.00, a lower amount will be awarded to reduce the bill to zero.
As you are in receipt of Local Council Tax Support, you are eligible to receive a payment. The enclosed bill shows the amount of your discount (called ‘Covid 19 – Hardship Payment’) and your revised instalments.
For further information please see our Council tax section.
