7. Scheduled monuments

Nationally important sites and monuments are given legal protection by being placed on a list, or 'schedule'. Historic England is responsible for identifying sites in England that are placed on the schedule by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

There are nine scheduled monuments within the Borough. Scheduled monument consent is needed before any works can be carried out that would affect the monument. The application process is administered by Historic England.
