7. Tilbury 2

The Port of Tilbury made an application for a new port terminal and associated facilities near to the existing Port of Tilbury. This is known as Tilbury 2 and will act as a satellite to the main Port of Tilbury. The project will be located on the western part of the former Tilbury Power Station in Thurrock Council's area. It will include:

  • a new roll-on roll-off terminal for importing and exporting containers on road trailers;
  • a facility for importing and processing bulk construction materials;
  • improvement of and extensions to the existing jetty;
  • external storage areas;
  • a new link road; and
  • a new rail spur and sidings to provide rail access to the site.

The application was received by the Planning Inspectorate on 31 October 2017 and accepted for examination on 21 November 2017, which occurred during the first nine months of 2018. The Examiner's report is now with the Secretary of State for Transport for decision, which is expected in February 2019. For further information please visit the Planning Inspectorate website.
