Cllr Lyn Milner ,71, became the new Mayor of Gravesham for the municipal year at the annual meeting of Gravesham Borough Council on 18 May 2021.
Cllr Milner has been a borough councillor for 28 years and was previously Mayor in 2012/2013. She has been deputy Mayor four times.
Message from Cllr Milner
“I’d like to take the opportunity to say what a privilege it is for me to be elected as Mayor of our wonderful borough for the second time, with the support from my son John.
“I’d like to thank Cllr John Caller and his lovely wife Sue for doing such great job last year during a time of such uncertainty and worry. And of course, I’d like to praise and thank the council officers, volunteers and key workers from across Gravesham who have bravely continued to do their jobs and look after our Borough, especially those that helped our residents in need during this time.
“Many families have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and it will leave a lasting scar but I hope that we are coming out the other side now and we, as a Borough, can bounce back to a vibrant, bustling place, with events, gatherings, and, of course, host our famous parades.
“During the pandemic we adopted the phrase One Community which reminds us that our solidarity makes us stronger.
“My chosen charities for this year are Ellenor and Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services. During the lockdowns many people with Alzheimer's and Dementia have drastically declined in health and I hope to be able to support them as much as possible.
“I look forward to seeing you all out and about, albeit socially distanced for now, and hope that we can begin to enjoy each other’s company again, which I’m sure we will all appreciate now more than ever.”
Cllr Peter Scollard, 51, who has been a councillor in Gravesham for six years, will be Deputy Mayor. His partner, Julie Easy, will be Deputy Mayoress.
