At the end of May 2025, the council welcomed a team of Peers from the Local Government Association (LGA), who undertook a Peer Challenge of the council.
The Corporate Peer Challenge focuses on the core, corporate functions of the council (including finance, performance and governance) and will provide a robust, strategic and credible challenge and support to the council, bringing together political and managerial leadership, with member and officer peers. In addition to the corporate focus, the council also asked the team to look at the council’s approach to the new Housing Consumer Standards.
The team submitted their final report in August 2025, and the council is in the process of developing an action plan to address the recommendations made.
All Corporate Peer Challenges have a progress review usually twelve months after the original Peer Challenge. The date of this will be confirmed with the LGA in due course. It usually takes place onsite over a day and a half.
