There are requirements within the policy needed as an existing Driver Licence holder. If you require any further guidance please contact our Licensing Team at licensing@gravesham.gov.uk.
Disclosure Barring Service Check
All licence holders must have a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check registered with the Update Service. This allows for DBS checks to be carried out six monthly, as set out in the policy.
Should your Update registration end, you will have to complete a new DBS application at your expense and register the new certificate with the Update Service.
If the Council are unable to carry out a satisfactory DBS update check at the six month interval, your driver licence will be suspended.
Guidance on how to apply
Please pay for your DBS check using our online form. This covers the cost of the check and the council’s processing costs. Please note that your account to complete the online application form will not be sent until this payment has been received.
You will be sent an email from noreply@employmentcheck.org.uk with a website link, login and password to access the online DBS application form. You will need to complete the form following the guidance on the website.
Once you have submitted your application form, you will need to contact the Licensing Office and arrange an appointment for your original documents to be checked and verified.
The full list of acceptable documents for the check can be found via the links below. Please note that only original forms of identification will be accepted.
The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.
Guidance about whether a conviction or caution should be disclosed can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.
Once you have received your DBS certificate you can register it with the DBS Update service, which involves setting up a yearly payment of £16. Visit GOV.UK DBS for further guidance on registering with the DBS update service.
You must send a copy of the DBS certificate and evidence that you have registered with the DBS update service. Then, as long as the certificate doesn’t show any new convictions etc, the suspension can be lifted.
