What is a Community Toilet Scheme?
A Community Toilet Scheme allows any member of the public to use the toilet facilities within an approved local business or organisation during their opening hours.
Where can I go in the Town Centre to use toilet facilities?
Members of the scheme display a sticker in their window to show which facilities are available. If you see the sticker then you are welcome to use the facilities in their premises free of charge.

Do I have to make a purchase to use the facilities?
The service is made available for free and without any expectation that you will purchase goods or services.
Do the toilets have wheelchair access and baby changing facilities?
All members of the scheme have wheelchair access and many have baby changing facilities.
What if the community toilets are not kept clean?
The businesses will maintain the community toilets and it is in their interest to keep a certain standard, as their customers as well as local shoppers will use them. Any issues should be taken up directly with the individual business.
There will be regular monitoring of the participating community toilets and if the facility does not meet a certain standard, the business will be taken off the Community Toilet Scheme.
I own a local business. How do I join the scheme?
Businesses can request to be part of the scheme by emailing parking.office@gravesham.gov.uk. They will be selected dependent on the level of facilities they offer and the level of need within the area. Businesses will be added to a waiting list if there is no requirement for further establishments to join the scheme at that time.
What is the RADAR Toilet Key?
A RADAR Toilet key allows people living with a disability access to use disabled toilet facilities nationwide. The Royal Association for Disability Rights (RADAR) is a national charity that campaigns for the rights of the 11 million people in the UK with a lived experience of disability or health conditions. The RADAR key scheme fits into the charity’s objectives to promote freedom and choice.
I have a disability. How do I buy a toilet key?
Please visit the Civic Centre and provide proof of disability (for example, a disability allowance letter or Blue Badge). The key costs £5.00.
