Concerns about a food business

We visit all food businesses in the borough to make sure they comply with food safety law. There may be times when food standards aren't followed, or you have concerns about a food business.

Suspected food poisoning

Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating contaminated food. It's not usually serious and most people get better within a few days without treatment.

The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within one to two days after eating contaminated food, although they may start at any point between a few hours and several weeks later.

If you think you have food poisoning contact your doctor. They will then contact us if there is a confirmed or suspected case of food poisoning.

If you have any food remaining that you suspect is the reason you're ill, keep it in a sealed container in the fridge as it may be needed for testing.

Poor food safety and hygiene practices
