We are committed to offering work experience placements to the young people in our community. We offer a range of opportunities from office-based roles to our manual frontline services.
There is also the opportunity to get involved with project work during your placement and make contributions to the work we do.
Our unpaid work experience placements to those wishing to explore potential career paths and develop the skills and behaviours valued by employers. You’ll have a chance to learn about our company ethos and services, developing an understanding of us as a local authority.
You will be given the opportunity to develop skills such as:
- Teamworking
- Problem-solving
- How to use office equipment and our systems
- Communication
- Time Management
Eligibility
Due to high demand and limited availability, we can only offer placements to people who live and go to school within the borough aged 15 and over.
Timescales
Applications for 2026 placements were open between the 1 February and 31 August.
After registering your interest, your details will be then passed on to the relevant teams to see if a placement can be offered. Confirmation on if you have been successful in receiving a placement will be passed on via email correspondence, so please monitor inboxes.
If you have not received any confirmation within 3 weeks of your application being submitted, you have not been successful in this instance at securing a placement.
Working Arrangements
Pay
Work experience is unpaid work offered to students. You won't get paid and we won't reimburse any expenses.
Hours
Your manager will inform you of your working hours ahead of placement. You won't work for more than 8 hours a day and you won't start before 7am or finish after 7pm.
You will only have to work up to 5 days in a row out of 7. You'll have breaks throughout the day.
Health and Safety
Responsible managers will ensure that appropriate risk management measures are in place to enable you to work safely. You’ll need to work safely, following the safety instructions you’ll receive. Your school should also conduct a health and safety check to make sure they're happy that the environment is safe.
Confidentiality
As part of your induction into your service area you’ll need to sign the work experience confidentiality agreement.
