Licensed animal establishments in other authority areas
Local licensable animal activities are inspected to make sure that they are fully compliant with the guidance to ensure the welfare of the animals.
What do the ratings mean?
When an animal business has been licensed it is given a star rating based on the findings by the inspector. The rating goes from one star to five stars. Three stars reflects that the business has fully complied with the general standard conditions and is a well-run business. If the business can meet the additional higher standards in the guidance, then can be awarded either 4 or 5 stars.
The length of the licence with each star rating is as follows
General Standards met
1 star | 1 year (existing licences on renewal) |
---|---|
2 stars | 1 year (new businesses only) |
3 stars | 2 years (existing licences on renewal) |
Higher Standards met
4 stars | 2 years (new businesses only) |
---|---|
5 stars | 3 years (existing licences on renewal) |
Being able to view the star rating for animal businesses across the country means that customers can make informed decisions about the animal businesses that they use.
Animal businesses for the Keeping or Training of Animals for Exhibition are not awarded a star rating and are awarded a licence that lasts for three years.
