A Street Champion 'Day of Action' took place this week to mark ASB Awareness Week 2023.
Approximately 25 volunteers met in Gravesend Town Centre to participate in a litter pick, and to engage with members of the public about the blight of littering and the hard work that goes into keeping Gravesham clean and tidy.
As part of the joint efforts of the Street Champions, Waste Management Team and Gravesham Community Safety Partnership, more than 30 sacks of litter were collected in just under two hours.
Littering is a serious form of anti-social behaviour that affects each of us as it is so visual. Since April 2023, our Street Cleansing Team have collected an average of 5.7 tonnes of litter, street sweepings and fly-tipping every single day in the borough.
While our Street Cleansing Team and the Street Champions work tirelessly year-round to combat litter, it is a persistent issue and this week our Street Champions were seen out in force to highlight the issue of littering.
