Gravesend will light up for Christmas with an afternoon of free fun and entertainment for the whole family on Saturday 18 November.

Kicking off at 2pm, there will be a live music stage at the junction of New Road and the historic High Street.

The entertainment will be hosted by Made in Kent Radio and features legendary UK garage artists, DJ Luck & MC Neat. The duo’s hour-long DJ set starts at 4pm and will include a live performance of their hits A Little Bit of Luck and Masterblaster 2000.

As darkness falls, the Mayor of Gravesham Cllr Gurdip Ram Bungar will be joined by the cast of this year’s panto at The Woodville, Snow White, to build up to the big moment when the lights go on.

Issuing an open invitation to all to the evening, Cllr Lauren Sullivan, Gravesham Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure, said: “We know it’s been a really tough year for many, both families and businesses, and so we wanted to launch the Christmas season by bringing everyone together.

“We’ve moved our lights switch on from its traditional Friday evening to the Saturday to give everyone the chance to spend a little longer in our wonderful riverside town and to open up the event to those who haven’t been able to attend on a weekday.

“Our entertainment has also moved from Community Square to the centre of town where we hope everyone will support our fantastic local independent traders by doing a little early Christmas shopping and enjoying our fantastic restaurants, cafes and bars.

“The lights switch on is just the curtain raiser. We have a fantastic weekend of Christmas fun and events lined up for December, with more details on that to come.

“I look forward to seeing everyone coming together to celebrate Christmas in Gravesham.”
