We are upgrading street lighting across Gravesend town centre, Clifton Marine Parade and Springhead industrial park.

More than 40 old sodium streetlights have been replaced with LED lights, which are brighter, require less maintenance and are up to 70% more energy efficient than those they are replacing.

The work is being funded thanks to a successful bid submitted by the council, working jointly with the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office, which secured 50% of the costs from the Home Office Safer Streets Fund.

Leader of Gravesham Borough Council, Cllr John Burden, welcomed the work, and said: “The safety of visitors to our town centre is one of our main priorities and there is a lot of work taking place on a number of projects to improve safety and security.

“These upgrades to streetlights owned by ourselves is just one strand of that work, but one that residents, businesses and visitors will notice an immediate improvement from.”

In Gravesend town centre, the upgraded lighting will take in New Road, King Street, Windmill Street and Hole In’T Wall Alley.
