Gravesham’s Seasonal Community Safety shop has opened its doors for the run-up to Christmas.
Run by Gravesham’s Community Safety Partnership and Gravesham Borough Council’s Community Safety Unit, the shop in the St George’s Centre, Gravesend, will be staffed by representatives of a number of agencies offering tips and advice, as well as personal safety equipment.
Those represented include Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Clarion Housing Domestic Abuse Services, Gravesham Family Hub and the Violence Reduction Unit, representatives from Gravesham Borough Council’s private housing, waste management and rough sleeping teams, and charities.
Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, said: “Our Seasonal Community Safety shop offers a great opportunity for local people to come and meet those who look out for their safety and security on a daily basis, share any concerns, and understand who they can report which issues to.
“Visitors can get confidential help and advice when it comes to reporting anti-social behaviour or crime, or how to access support if they or someone they know is experiencing domestic abuse.
“There’s also information on free after-school children’s activities and support for parents and you can also collect free safety equipment – whether it’s a personal alarm, a high-visibility sticker, a signal blocker for your car, or drink anti-spiking caps.
“Everyone is welcome, and on behalf of the Community Safety Partnership I would like to thank the management of the St George’s Centre for generously allowing us free use of the shop unit.”
Gravesham’s Seasonal Community Safety Shop is open from 10am-3.30pm, Monday to Saturday, until 7 December.
