Gravesham Civic Award Winners

Do you know of someone in Gravesham who deserves to be acknowledged and recognised for making a significant contribution to the local community in a voluntary basis?

Our annual awards scheme is an opportunity for the borough to recognise and celebrate people who have made a significant contribution to the local community on a voluntary basis.

his year, we are particularly keen to recognise members of our younger community for example, young carers and volunteers.

Cllr Deborah Croxton, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure, said:

“Our community awards are our way to recognise and appreciate the work of individuals, organisations, and communities making Gravesham a place to be proud of. It is always great to see deserving people being acknowledged for their efforts and achievements.”

Nominees might be someone who has:

  • Gone the extra mile to provide services and improve the quality of life for local people or an individual
  • Benefited the community through volunteering activities/fundraising
  • Brought benefits to the town or its people

The council has been running an award scheme since 2008 and we have presented in the region of 125 awards so far.

Nominations close on Friday 28th March.

The awards to be presented at Annual Council and Mayor Making on 13 May 2025.

Who can be nominated

All nominees must either live, work or study in the borough of Gravesham. Their work or involvement must be in a voluntary capacity. Councillors or members of staff cannot be nominated.

Who will choose the winners?

The panel will include the mayor, a cabinet member and community representatives who will consider and choose the winners.

In reaching their decisions the panel will consider:

  • The level of commitment shown
  • Any obstacles that had to be overcome
  • The amount and number of people benefiting or affected by their work
  • Length of commitment
  • Such other matters that in the opinion of the panel promote the purpose of the scheme

What does the winner receive

The winner will receive a glass award presented by the mayor together with a commemorative photo taken along with the mayor. The awards will be presented at the Annual council on 13 May 2025 followed by a buffet reception and an opportunity to meet Councillors, staff and other award winners.
