The Council is to receive £1.5 million as part of the Government’s new Pride in Place programme announced last month (September).

The £5 billion national scheme is designed to support communities across the country by investing in local high streets, public spaces, and community facilities.

The funding allocated to Gravesham will be directed towards projects that are backed by the local community and deliver visible improvements for residents.

This could include bringing vacant town centre properties back into use and initiatives to tackle litter and graffiti, improve local parks, or create new opportunities for people to come together.

Cllr John Burden, Leader of Gravesham Borough Council, said:

“This is welcome news for Gravesham. We know how much pride local people take in their communities, and this funding represents an opportunity to support that pride with practical improvements.

“It’s important to stress that there will be conditions on how the money is spent, and it must be used on projects shaped by and supported within our community.

“Over the coming weeks, we will work closely with our MP and partners to ensure this funding is used in a way that has a real and lasting impact.”

The £1.5 million will be paid to the council in two parts over the next two years and it will set out further details on how the community can help shape the priorities for the funding in due course.
