A recent Industry 4 Council (I4C) meeting marked a turning point for employer-led skills reform in Gravesham and North Kent, to improve local training and job opportunities.
The 14C is made up of a powerful group of employers, Further and Higher Education providers, infrastructure leaders, and local authorities. Formed two years ago with 12 stakeholders, with a shared mission to reshape the skills system around the needs of advanced manufacturing and construction.
The council has long championed a one-stop service, connecting industry with key partner agencies, schools, colleges, and training providers.
Together, the I4C has:
- Launched a targeted feasibility report, commissioned by the council and funded by Government, with seven key findings and six recommendations.
- Celebrated the award of the Construction Technical Excellence College to North Kent College, home to the region’s first Regional Knowledge Centre for technical teacher training and curriculum innovation.
- Confirmed funding to pilot an Industry Group Training Association (IGTA) in North Kent to simplify apprenticeship access and scale workforce training.
