From 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026, we will be running a Tenant Electrical Improvements Amnesty, to keep you and your home safe.

This one‑off opportunity allows you to tell us about any electrical changes, additions, or DIY work carried out in your home without permission, with no risk of tenancy action or recharges during the amnesty period (in line with the enclosed procedure).

Why are we doing this?

Electrical safety is one of the most important responsibilities we share with our tenants. Even small changes such as new sockets, light fittings, switches, outdoor electrics or DIY wiring can sometimes create risks.

The amnesty allows us to:

  • Make sure your home is safe
  • Fix any problems free of charge during the amnesty window
  • Work with you to keep electrical systems compliant
  • Prevent hazards such as fire, shocks, or failed safety checks

What should I report?

Please tell us if you, or anyone working on your behalf, have installed, adjusted, or replaced any electrical items, for example:

  • Extra sockets or changes to existing ones
  • Light fittings, dimmer switches, spotlights
  • Garden, shed or outdoor electrics including light fittings and sockets
  • Added spurs from existing circuits
  • Any DIY electrical work

If you're not sure whether it counts, please tell us anyway, we're here to help.

What happens when I report something?

  1. We will arrange for a qualified electrician to visit your home.
  2. They will check if the work is safe.
  3. If anything needs fixing, we will arrange this at no cost to you during the amnesty.
  4. No tenancy action will be taken for any issues reported within the amnesty period.

We will only take immediate action if there is a serious safety risk that needs urgent attention.

After the amnesty

Once the amnesty period ends, any unapproved electrical alterations found during future inspections may result in recharges or be treated as a breach of your tenancy agreement.
