Work will begin in June on a brand new inclusive outdoor playground at the rear of St George’s Centre in Gravesend.
The new play area is being designed to be accessible and welcoming for children of all abilities. The site will be delivered by specialist provider Safeplay and will include a wide range of modern and inclusive equipment.
Planned features include a multi-play unit, swings, an accessible roundabout, trampoline and see-saw. There will also be musical and sensory play panels to support interactive and inclusive play, along with a wheelchair-accessible picnic table and seating area.
The project forms part of a wider programme of investment funded through the Council’s successful £20 million award from the Local Regeneration Fund (LRF).

Following extensive lobbying by the local MP and council members, confirmation of the funding was received in April 2025, enabling delivery of a number of key improvements across the borough.
As part of the programme, £2 million has been allocated to the Gravesend Town Centre Improvement Programme, which includes enhancements to public spaces around St George’s Square, improvements near Gravesend Town Pier, new community and business space within St George’s Centre, and public realm upgrades to Kings Street and New Road.
The remaining £17 million will support the redevelopment of the Cascades Leisure Centre.
The new playground is expected to provide a valuable community space for families and aims to support inclusive play, health and wellbeing in the heart of Gravesend.
