Site preparation works for the redevelopment of Cascades Leisure Centre will begin on Monday 3 August and are expected to continue for approximately 16 weeks.
These essential enabling works will prepare the site for the main construction phase of the redevelopment, helping ensure the project can be delivered safely and efficiently.
We appreciate that construction activity may cause some temporary disruption and thank residents, visitors and leisure centre users for their patience and understanding while this work takes place.

How will this affect me?
During the works, there will be some temporary changes around the site, including:
- A temporary car park for Cascades customers while the main car park is within the construction area.
- Temporary pedestrian routes and crossings.
- The nearby bus stop will be temporarily relocated.
- The front field will be closed throughout the construction works and secured with perimeter fencing. This means it will not be accessible, including for dog walkers.
- Directional signage will be in place to help guide pedestrians and visitors safely around the site.
- Increased construction activity during normal working hours.
What work will be taking place?
To prepare the site for construction of the new leisure centre, the contractor will carry out a range of enabling works, including:
- Installation of temporary welfare facilities, site fencing, construction plant and equipment.
- Groundworks and excavation.
- Archaeological surveys.
- Installation of lighting column bases.
- Tarmac repairs to the existing car park.
- Approved tree removal works.
- Soakaway excavation works.
- Construction of a new site compound entrance.
- Working hours
- Site working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. These hours are in line with planning requirements.
How we’re minimising disruption
We understand construction work can be disruptive and are committed to being a considerate neighbour throughout the project.
To minimise the impact on residents, visitors and leisure centre users, the following measures will be in place.
Noise and vibration
- Using quieter equipment where possible.
- Acoustic barriers for particularly noisy activities.
- Ongoing noise and vibration monitoring.
Dust control
- Regular damping down of the site.
- Dust screens where appropriate.
- Wheel washing facilities for vehicles leaving the site.
Traffic management
- Deliveries scheduled, where possible, to avoid peak traffic periods.
- Clearly signed pedestrian routes and crossings.
- Traffic management measures to maintain safe access around the site.
Site management
- Regular cleaning of surrounding roads and pavements.
- Secure storage of construction materials and equipment.
- Considerate working practices by all contractors.
- Parking for construction operatives will be limited, and staff will be encouraged to use public transport wherever possible.
