We are inviting students to enter our creative writing competition for our Christmas exhibition.
The Arts and Culture team are showcasing a Christmas around the World exhibition at the St George’s Arts Centre in Gravesend, this December.
Part of the exhibition is ‘Christmas in a box, which is a telephone box inside the gallery that the public can access as a decoration exchange and to listen to Christmas stories and poems being read by actors from Gravesend and District Theatre Guild.
We are asking young people aged between 5 and 18 to submit a poem or very short story based on the theme of Christmas around the World. Stories can be up to a maximum of 750 words and poems up to 300 words max. All work must be original and created by the students themselves.
There will be a first and second prize awarded for each of the 4 age categories and the winners will be invited to record or have their work recorded by a local actor which will then be available to listen to in the telephone box throughout December. Alongside this, the winners will also receive a small prize of a book token.
All entries will be printed and displayed in one of the Arts and Culture venues in Gravesham either as a wall display or in book form throughout December.
Entries must be submitted by the end of the day on Wednesday 23 November 2022.
A prize-winning presentation will be held at our exhibition launch event on Friday 02 December 2022 at the St George’s Arts Gallery, St George’s Shopping Centre, Gravesend, Kent, DA11 OTA.
