Gravesham Borough Council is consulting on the extension of the existing Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that was implemented in Gravesham in February 2021.

The extension proposed is for a further period of three years and for the existing amount of the penalty fee to be increased from £75 to £100 in line with other penalty fees. Otherwise the details of the Order have not changed.

Complaints and incidents of dog fouling not being picked up by those in charge of dogs in public places have reduced significantly demonstrating the effectiveness of the current Order, however the Council does still receive complaints. Extending the Order will mean that the council will continue to have enforcement powers to deal with those not picking up after their dog in a public place when witnessed by an authorised officer. For more information please visit our dog fouling page.

Under the existing legislation, whilst the Council has the power to extend an Order, it is required to consult stakeholders and the public. The Council’s Management Team have agreed that there is sufficient justification to proceed to a consultation stage. The consultation has been designed to enable responses to the proposal whether they be in support, or not, to the extension and the increase of the penalty fee to £100.
