Pocahontas
Returning to her homeland from a visit to England and the Royal court, dying Pocahontas was brought ashore at Gravesend and buried in the chancel of St George's.
Pocahontas was around 21 years old at the time of her death, based on her estimated birth year of 1595. Her brief life spanned significant historical events, including the early years of English colonisation in Virginia and her journey across the Atlantic to England.
The statue in Gravesend commemorates the remarkable story of a Native American woman, known in popular folklore as Pocahontas.

It was presented to the Church of St George in 1958 by the Governor of Virginia to recognise her burial place beneath the chancel.
Visitors can also admire the beautiful glass windows, two of them were given as a present from the Colonial Dames of Virginia.
