Neighbourhood planning allows communities to influence the future of their areas by preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan, a Neighbourhood Development Order or a Community Right to Build Order.
This is done through Parish Councils and Neighbourhood Forums.
By preparing a neighbourhood plan, communities can have more control over where development will go and what it will look like.
If you want to prepare a neighbourhood plan the policies in it need to conform generally to the policies in the Gravesham Local Plan. The purpose of your Neighbourhood Plan is not to prevent development that is already included in the Local Plan, but it can allow higher levels of development.
Once adopted, your Neighbourhood Plan becomes part of the Development Plan for Gravesham and the policies will be used to determine planning applications within the area. It will have the same weight in decision making as the Local Plan Core Strategy.
Neighbourhood Development Orders and Community Right to Build Orders allow communities to grant planning permission either in full or in outline for the types of development they want to go ahead in their areas.
