We are committed to promoting and safeguarding our environment.

By working together, we can create a sustainable and eco-friendly future.

Implementing initiatives that raise awareness, providing resources to encourage residents to be part of this exciting journey. We all have a responsibility for the environment.

Our mission is to protect and enhance the natural environment, preserve biodiversity, and promote sustainable practices. This will ensure a greener and healthier community for present and future generations.

Conservation and biodiversity

We strive to protect and conserve our local ecosystems, including woodland, wetlands, and wildlife habitats. Working with partners and volunteers, we work to preserve biodiversity and maintain a healthy balance between human activities and the natural environment.

Projects include:

  • Urban Roots – Support our planet by purchasing a tree that will be planted in our urban landscape
  • Grow Your Community – Join a community allotment scheme
  • Friends of Gravesham – Offer a little time to join others in improving our open spaces for all to enjoy
  • Urban Orchards – Establishing fruit orchards in estates to promote more birdlife
  • Off The Grid – Using solar to power the Gordons Lake aeration system to breathe new life into the water
  • Wildflowers – Working to promote pollinators by allowing areas to become naturally beautiful (we don’t really have verges)
  • Memorial Trees – Remembering a loved one with the gift of a tree that will be planted in memory of them (generic, planted anywhere or in a specific location)
  • Greener Gravesham – Creation of green corridors that encourage wildlife and nature, and signpost to wonderful rural areas that are on our doorstep.

Rubbish and Recycling

Our goal is to reduce rubbish going to landfill and promote recycling. By promoting the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, we can reduce the impact of waste on our environment.

  • up-cycling – Gifting good quality furniture to charity so it can be granted a new lease of life
  • Reducing Green Waste -
  • Maximise on Waste – Enhancing the waste collected by the council for biomass (heat generation), natural compost and using wood chippings for bedding
  • Home Composting – Promoting home composting with a reduced compost bin provided by our partner.

Sustainable Development

We promote sustainable practices in urban planning, construction, and infrastructure development. By adopting environmentally friendly approaches, we can reduce carbon, resources and emissions, which enhance the quality of life.

Biodiversity net gain (BNG) is a strategy to develop land and contribute to the recovery of nature.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

We encourage energy-efficient practices. We support the transition to renewable energy sources. Through awareness campaigns, incentives, and educational programs, we empower residents and businesses to adopt energy-saving technologies and renewable energy solutions. These practices reduce their carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner environment.

Education and Outreach

We believe that education and awareness are key to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. We want to host community events to engage residents of all ages and backgrounds. The aim is to raise awareness, inspire action, and build a strong network of environmentally conscious people.
