Health and safety

Last updated on: 09-Apr-2021

1. Overview

The enforcement of health and safety in Gravesham is divided between Gravesham Borough Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). We work closely with HSE to secure health and safety improvements.

If the major activity of your business is retail, office, catering or storage, then we are responsible for the enforcement of Health and Safety within your business.

If it is construction, manufacturing, airports, docks, mines and quarries or agriculture it will fall to the HSE.

Officers from our Commercial Team, Regulatory Services can be contacted for guidance and further advice on any aspect of Health and Safety including:

  • Risk Assessments
  • Asbestos in the workplace
  • Manual Handling
  • COSHH Assessments
  • Working with computers and laptops
  • Reporting work related accidents / incidents
  • First Aid requirements

Many leaflets are now downloadable free of charge from the HSE website or you can contact our team by emailing: commercialhealth.admin@gravesham.gov.uk or phoning 01474 337598.
