3. Transport Quarter

Artists impression of the proposed Transport Quarter Bus Hub

This project is being delivered in three phases.  The first phase of the Transport Quarter involved changes in the traffic flow in the town centre and the creation of the Community Square.  Separately, Gravesend Station was upgraded with new and extended platforms, an accessible bridge and a cycle hub.

The second phase involved construction of the new Rathmore Road link, a new station forecourt and a redesigned Rathmore Road car park.  This has allowed the diversion of the one-way system south of the railway and released space for the new transport interchange.

Kent County Council has been working up details of the final phase of the Transport Quarter which will create a bus hub at Barrack Row.  It is to be funded from South East Local Enterprise Partnership’s Local Growth Fund and the Strategic Transport Infrastructure Programme.

The latest design provides 3 stops in Garrick Street for Fastrack and Sapphire services, with 4 stops retained in Barrack Row for local bus services. This is due to be finalised in 2020 with construction to begin in 2021.
