Ebbsfleet Garden City

In 2014, the government announced plans to create a new locally-led garden city at Ebbsfleet, capable of providing up to 15,000 new homes based predominantly on brownfield land, or former quarries. The area straddles the boundaries of Gravesham and Dartford boroughs and contains a number of strategic sites.

The government is seeking not only to increase the pace of development, but also to create high quality development. The aim is to build homes that are supported by local employment opportunities, green space and the necessary infrastructure so that Ebbsfleet becomes a place where people want to live, work and raise families.

Within Gravesham, development is expected to lead to the provision of:

  • additional homes at Springhead Park
  • business, leisure/entertainment, hotels and restaurants at the part of Ebbsfleet within our borough
  • homes and employment development at Northfleet Embankment West and Northfleet Embankment East

The Ebbsfleet Development Corporation has been set up to speed up delivery of the homes and create a 21st century Garden City in north Kent. The Corporation is working with us and local communities to develop a shared vision for the area.

The Corporation is now responsible for deciding planning applications, giving pre-application advice and carrying out planning enforcement in its area.
