The role

We are looking for experienced refuse drivers to deliver a professional service across the borough of Gravesham. You will have an LGV category C licence and current DCPC certification.

You will be a team player who will be able to carry out refuse and recycling collections whilst complying with drivers hours regulations, council policy and Health and Safety at Work legislation.

Duties include driving rigid HGV’s of various configurations up to 26t, collection and disposal of refuse and all other waste related tasks assigned by the management. You will be required to use an “in-cab” device to ensure work schedule and missed bins are completed and recorded. You will also need to undertake vehicle exterior and interior washing and cleaning as well as vehicle pre and post use checks, complying with the correct procedure to ensure defects are reported and rectified appropriately.

In return, we offer a permanent and full time contract with guaranteed hours and local authority benefits including a pension scheme. There will be opportunities to work overtime and to cover bank holiday services. You will undertake a comprehensive induction and full uniform and PPE will be provided.

About you

  • Full Clean Driving Licence, Category C, Valid DCPC, Valid Digital Tachograph card
  • Willingness to do work of a routine repetitive nature.
  • Physical fitness is essential, must be able to undertake heavy lifting, bending, walking for a number of miles per day and carrying heavy objects.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
