The Role

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to manage, lead and develop the delivery of the Council’s Regulatory Services, made up of our Environmental Health teams, and Licensing, which is a shared service with Medway Council.

As our Regulatory Services Manager, you will be responsible for the operational and day to day delivery and performance of the service, building on a culture of continuous improvement in service quality, efficiency, customer experience and corporate and partnership working, to achieve organisational, performance and financial targets in full compliance with all procedural and legislative requirements, and drive improved levels of regulatory standards to deliver a place where our community can be proud to live, work and enjoy.

Working alongside other excellent regulatory teams within our wider Community Protection Service, and reporting to the Head of Community Protection, this role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right person.

About you

The ideal candidate will have an extensive working knowledge in at least one area of environmental health and suitable management experience, but applications are welcomed from anyone meeting the essential criteria in the person specification appended to the job description, including:

  • Being educated to graduate level with a degree, diploma, or other equivalent qualification in environmental health
  • Having a good level of awareness of all the environmental health and licensing service areas and being able to demonstrate competency and in-depth knowledge of the legislation, working practices and methodologies in at least one of the relevant specialist areas.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Having an up to date understanding of current challenges, pressures & developments affecting environmental health, licensing and local government
