The Role

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with good communication skills, tenacity and an enquiring mind. They must have the ability to deal calmly and professionally with difficult situations and challenge those responsible for anti-social and environmental offences.

You will be required to carry out uniformed patrol, on foot and by vehicle, in urban and rural locations, across Gravesham. You will work independently and with other team members

As a Street Scene Enforcement Officer, you will carry out engagement and education in relation to environmental issues. You will also carry out the initial investigation and enforcement of offences, including littering, dog fouling and fly tipping. The role involves issuing fixed penalty notices to offenders. On occasions you will assist Environmental Crime Officers with fly-tipping investigations and other environmental crime enquiries.

You will be required to work over five days, including occasional weekend work and, when necessary, evenings. You may also be required to assist in tasks related to other areas of Gravesham Borough Council business.

As a Street Scene Enforcement Officer, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that Gravesham is a place to be proud of.

About you

Essential qualifications/experience

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs, grade C or equivalent, one of which must be English.
  • Experience of working in a public facing enforcement role and handling difficult situations in a professional manner.
  • Experience of issuing Fixed Penalty Notices and initial investigation.
  • Experience of completing investigation/prosecution related paperwork including FPNs and witness statements.
  • A Full UK Manual driving licence and recent experience of driving manual vehicles.

Desirable qualifications/experience

  • Experience of investigating environmental offences.
  • A knowledge and practical experience of enforcing environmental legislation.
  • Previous experience with another local authority enforcement team or enforcement authority. 
  • Experience of using a body worn camera. 
  • Previous experience of presenting evidence at court.
