Some residents will see changes to bin collection days from September. The changes will increase capacity and result in a more efficient service.
From September 2025, changes will be introduced to improve the efficiency and resilience of our waste collection service. While the frequency of collections will remain the same, some households will experience a change in their collection day and/or collection week.
Following a review of current collection schedules, we’ve identified opportunities to operate more effectively and efficiently.
What is changing
Across the borough, collection routes are being reorganised so that:
- Recycling, rubbish, food waste, and garden waste will be collected in specific areas on set days.
- Some households will have a new collection day and/or switch their collection week.
- Others will retain their current week but may see a change in the day of collection.
- Some residents will not be affected at all.
Benefits of the new service
- Improved resilience: By assigning specific days to specific areas, we can respond more quickly to unexpected issues such as vehicle breakdowns or staff shortages.
- Dedicated food waste collections:This change helps us meet the legal requirement to collect food waste from all properties, including flats, by 31 March 2026. Separating food waste from refuse/recycling increases vehicle capacity and efficiency.
- Capacity for growth: The new system supports the borough’s growing population and housing developments.
- Integrated street services: Litter picking and road sweeping can now be aligned with waste collection days, improving overall cleanliness.
Temporary disruption
At the start of the new schedule, some streets may experience a one-time, three-week gap in either recycling or general waste collection.
If this affects you, you’ll be able to present any excess waste on your next scheduled collection.
Stay Informed
The new scheduled waste and recycling collection dates will be available online soon, and every household will receive a bin day card through the letter box outlining any changes to the collection day or week.
Check your current collection days using our online Bin Day checker.
The new online schedules will be updated on the bin day checker from September.
A Message from Cllr Emma Morley
“The changes we are making to our household waste collection service will make it fit to serve a growing borough and help drive up our recycling rates.
Our aim has been to keep changes minimal and disruption low, but to continue operating efficiently, we must update our rounds.
We’ll ensure everyone is informed, but please help spread the word to your family, friends, and neighbours.”
