Registers
We keep two electoral registers of information given to us by the public:
- The electoral register
- The open register, also known as the edited register
Electoral register
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in Gravesham.
The register is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote, and is also used for other things set out in law like:
- Detecting crime, such as fraud
- Calling people for jury service
- Checking credit applications
The register is updated every year on 1 December. A notice is also published and displayed in the council offices - view the most recent notice.
Viewing the electoral register
The only way you can view the electoral register is in person at the Civic Centre. There is no official centralised register that can be searched online.
This service is by appointment only and will be under the supervision of a member of staff.
During busy periods, appointments to view the register will be limited (depending on staff availability) but we will try to find a suitable time and date during our office hours.
Handwritten notes may be made by those inspecting the register. Any other copying or recording is not permitted
Contact the Electoral Services office 01474 337253 to make an appointment to view the current register.
Searching the electoral register
The electoral register is organised by polling district, with each polling district listed alphabetically by street name.
It is not possible to search the register by name. You need to have some idea of where in Gravesham the property or person you are trying to find is located.
Historic versions of the register
We do not hold historic electoral registers for public viewing.
Open register
The open register is an extract of the electoral register that isn't used for elections.
It can be bought by any person, company or organisation and is often used by businesses and charities to check name and address details.
Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for it to be removed. Removing your details from the open register does not affect your right to vote.
The open register does not include telephone numbers or email addresses.
Opting out of the open register does not affect your credit report.
To change your ‘opt out status’ please complete the online form below.
Do not use this service if you're not already registered to vote. Register to vote on GOV.UK.
