Local Land Charges is a service that identifies if a prospective land/property purchase is affected by any restrictions or legal obligations on the building(s) or plot of land.

Land charges register

We migrated the Local Land Charges Register to HM Land Registry’s (HMLR) national register on 9 October 2024. Find information about this process on GOV.UK.

This digital service can be accessed through the Business Gateway Portal and on HM Land Registry’s GOV.UK pages.

Data that we pass to HMLR is assessed on a quarterly basis, below represents our status.

Con29 searches

A Con29 Local Authority Search provides standard search responses on things such as planning, highways and environmental. Covers items that are in existence or that are being considered or awaiting approval. This costs £160.80 per residential address, and £247.20 per commercial address.

Commons Land Registration and Village Greens

These searches are dealt with by Kent County Council, but requests are made as part of a search and should be submitted via question 22 on the form Con29O through the local authority.

How to request a search

Using our online form, you can order a Con29 search, or purchase optional enquiries if required, including the Commons Land and Village Green question. At the end of the form we'll ask you to pay by debit or credit card, so please have your card details to hand.

We'll ask you for:

  • the property address to be searched
  • your personal details, including contact details
  • a copy of the property plan
