What is governance?

Governance is how local government bodies ensure that they are doing the right things, in the right way, for the right people in a timely, inclusive, open, honest and accountable manner.

What are our governance arrangements?

We have adopted a Code of Corporate Governance (the Code). The Code acts as the cornerstone to our governance framework by which we are accountable to our users and wider community stakeholders. Within that framework, the Code sets out a commitment as to how we carry out our functions, and the procedures and processes by which we undertake to deliver our adopted Corporate Objectives.

The Code is subject to annual review and ensures our arrangements are consistent with the core governance principles as set out in the 'Delivering Good Governance' framework, published by Chartered Institute of Public Finance and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.

In support of the Code, we also review our governance controls on an annual basis and produce an Annual Governance Statement which is approved by the Finance and Audit Committee.
