Overview
Any waste that comes from a commercial activity is business waste. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, every business has a legal duty of care to ensure that the waste produced, however small or large the amount, is disposed of properly by a licensed waste carrier.
You are responsible for your waste from when you produce it until you have transferred it to an authorised person, and you must have a trade waste agreement in place and keep a copy of your Waste Transfer Note.
Furthermore, as of 31 March 2025, all businesses and relevant non-domestic premises with ten or more full-time employees must separate plastic, paper and card, glass, metals (cans, tins and foil) and food waste from general waste.
Gravesham Borough Council offer a competitively priced commercial waste and recycling service tailored to your business needs.
With over 500 customers, as well as our domestic collections, we are the largest waste collector in the borough. This allows us to offer a cost-effective and reliable commercial recycling and waste disposal service.

What services are available?
We offer general waste and mixed recycling in a range of container sizes and collection frequencies:
- Trade Sacks (15 sacks per roll) - Delivered every 13 weeks. 1 sack collected per week.
- 240-litre bin (weekly or fortnightly collections available)
- 360-litre bin (weekly or fortnightly collections available)
- 660-litre bin (weekly, fortnightly or monthly collections available)
- 1100-litre bin (weekly, fortnightly or monthly collections available)
Food waste collections are delivered by ReFood on a 'clean swap' basis at your desired collection frequency - this means that the 240-litre food waste bin will be taken away and a clean one will be left behind to be refilled.
When do we collect?
Depending on your container size, we have weekly, fortnightly and monthly collections available.
Trade waste is collected as normal on most Bank Holidays, although there can be some changes around the Christmas and New Year period.
