Overview

A Club Premises Certificate is a certificate granted for premises occupied by, and habitually used for the purposes of, a club.

Does my premises qualify as a club?

In order to qualify as a club the premises must conduct any of the qualifying club activities:

  • the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of the club to, or to the order of, members of the club;
  • the sale by retail of alcohol by or on behalf of the club to a guest of a member of the club for consumption on the premises where the sale takes place; and
  • the provision of regulated entertainment (where that provision is by or on behalf of a club for members of the club or members of the club and their guests).

In addition, to be qualified as a club under the terms of the Licensing Act 2003 you will need to fulfil the conditions mentioned in Appendix 1 which are drawn from the Act.

Please note that if you do not qualify as a club you may have to make an application for a new Premises Licence. You may decide that a Premises Licence best suits your needs anyway.

If you are unsure which of these options is best for you and your business, then please consider carefully and take advice. You may wish to contact a solicitor, your trade organisation or other professional advice. Our Licensing Team can only offer limited help and guidance.

If you feel that your premises qualifies as a club, then you are welcome to submit an application to us.
