3. Landlords' responsibilities
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Landlords are required to provide smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in rented properties.
By law, you must:
- Install a smoke alarm on each floor
- Install a carbon monoxide alarm in any room which contains a solid fuel appliance
- Ensure that all alarms are working correctly at the start of a new tenancy
