What to do when you move

Moving home can often be a difficult process, with lots to prepare and details to change. 

If you're moving into or out of the borough, you'll need to update your details.

Council tax

Register for Council Tax and notify us when you move in or out the borough

If you live in Gravesham already and pay Council Tax, you will have an account. You will need your existing council tax account number which can be found on your last bill.

If you're new to the borough or this is your first home, choose Moving into Gravesham.

Register to vote

When moving house, you will need to register to vote again.

Rubbish and recycling

Council owned properties are inspected, all furniture and rubbish will be cleared ready for the next new tenant. Should they be any issues, please contact your Housing Officer.

Private rented properties are the responsibility of the landlord to ensure waste is appropriately disposed of, which would be classed as commercial waste.

If the property has been purchased and waste is left behind, the new occupiers can book a slot at the tip, Pepperhill Household Waste Recycling Centre (managed by Kent County Council).

Parking and permits

All parking permits are managed online with virtual permits. Find out what parking zone your new property is in and how to apply for parking permit available to you. Once you have a permit, you will be able to manage everything parking from your online permit account.
